  • Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) announced today will see Ricardo collaborate with China’s leading independent automotive technology organization
  • Collaboration envisaged under the MoU will include the introduction of new Ricardo automotive technology to China and the joint execution of development programmes for Chinese customers

China Automotive Technology &Research Center (CATARC) was established in 1985 as a centre of automotive excellence independent of any manufacturer. The company currently employs over 2000 employees in well-equipped technical facilities such as those at its Tianjin headquarters. In addition to supporting individual manufacturers with product development and testing expertise, CATARC assists the Chinese government in areas including the formulation of automotive regulations, product certification testing, quality system certification, industry planning and policy formulation support, information services and pre-competitive technology research.

“The execution of this MoU is an extremely positive step for both Ricardo and CATARC,” said Ricardo Asia president Gary Tan. “Our two organizations share a very similar technology-focused culture and ethos, independent from any major automaker and able to provide expert advice and support on state-of-the-art product development programmes.  We believe this collaboration will enable Ricardo to bring some of its leading edge automotive technologies to the Chinese market, while also benefiting from the significant local development resources and facilities of CATARC, one of China’s leading automotive technology organizations.”

“CATARC is pleased to have entered this landmark agreement with Ricardo,” added Mr. Zhao Hang, president of CATARC “With the recent significant expansion of our technical base, CATARC now has extensive research and development facilities including powertrain and vehicle test laboratories and specialist equipment for NVH refinement, and EMC, vehicle safety and emissions testing.  By combining our strengths with those of Ricardo, we aim to provide an unprecedented level of service and consulting support to customers in the Chinese automotive industry.”
