Team Ocelot – the unique collaboration between Force Protection Europe Ltd and Ricardo plc – has announced that it will hold a ride and drive event at Millbrook on Tuesday April 27 to enable members of the media to experience for themselves the world’s most advanced light protected patrol vehicle being put through its paces.
The new Ocelot LPPV vehicle was originally unveiled at the Defence Systems & Equipment International Exhibition, London, in September 2009, and has since been undergoing rigorous development testing. Offering similar levels of protection to the highly praised Mastiff MRAP vehicle, Ocelot comprises a core automotive armoured spine or ‘skateboard’ onto which a number of alternative, special-to-role pods are mounted. Each of the pods can be easily changed in the field as the need arises and have been designed for roles such as patrol, fire support or protected logistics. Four wheel steering is common to all and the vehicle can be transported in a C-130 or underslung from a Chinook.
Providing levels of survivability and manoeuvrability never before achieved in a light protected patrol vehicle, Ocelot draws on the world leading blast protection know-how of Force Protection and the renowned automotive engineering excellence of Ricardo. Developed and manufactured in the UK, Ocelot is equally suited to operations in desert, jungle, mountainous or urban environments. Combining the unique skills and experience of two of the world’s leading companies in the field of advanced defence vehicles, Ocelot provides a British solution to a British requirement creating British jobs.
