Ricardo announces seminar on wind turbine drivetrain innovation
13 February 2011

It has been announced that Ricardo will host a seminar at the prestigious EWEA 2011 conference in Brussels – Europe’s premier wind energy event – focusing on wind turbine drivetrain innovations and product development.

This half day seminar aims to provide delegates with an understanding of the full product development life-cycle processes, new technologies, and areas of advanced product innovation that are likely to be critical in reducing the cost and increasing the reliability of energy derived from wind power. Speakers from Ricardo and other leading wind energy organizations will give presentations outlining the latest developments in areas including product design and development processes and approaches, advanced wind turbine drivetrain solutions, component innovations, and the increasing role of drivetrain test-rigs.

The seminar – which is free of charge for attendees of EWEA 2011 – will be held in Room 1102A of the world famous Brussels Expo, on the afternoon of Wednesday 16 March from 14.00 until 18.00. It will be of particular interest to those involved in the design and development of next-generation wind turbine drivetrains, as well as others including wind farm operators and investors wishing to better understand how innovation and the improvements in the design and development processes can increase confidence in the reliability of new turbines and therefore the robustness of their business case.

Ricardo market sector director for clean energy and power generation Paul Jordan said: “Improving the reliability of wind turbine drivetrains is of critical importance, particularly for offshore wind projects, and is an area where Ricardo’s strength in innovation can make a major impact.  We’re extremely pleased to be able to host this important wind energy drivetrain innovation and technology seminar at what is perhaps the most important technical event in the European wind energy industry calendar. This seminar will interest many across the wind sector from drivetrain engineers to the investment community and will be a valuable addition to the main conference programme.”

The full seminar agenda and registration details are available on the EWEA 2011 conference web site (www.ewec2011.info). For further information contact Tobias Drews (Tobias.Drews@ricardo.com).
