Jack's Story

What is your role at Ricardo?
I support project managers in the delivery of LCA projects, helping to complete data collection and research, data reviews, product modelling and analysis.

What does your average day at Ricardo look like?
No single day is the same as the last. Typically, I’ll check in with my project managers to see if there are any urgent tasks to complete, then I’ll look through my 30-day plan to see what time and tasks I’ve planned to do that day. This can include working on technical reports for clients, research a certain life cycle stage of a product or work within the LCA software (Simapro) developing a model for the product.

What do you look forward to at work?
I enjoy the prospect of working on different things day-to-day, week-to-week, month-to-month. One day I might be working on a project based within the chemical sector and the next I’ll be working on a project based in the automotive sector. Learning new things about each of these industries then implementing them through multi-month projects which will have real-world impacts it something that excites me each day.

What do you find most rewarding at work? / Are you proud to work at Ricardo?
Similarly to what I look forward to, the sheer amount of new knowledge I develop during the period of a project is something I find incredibly rewarding, leaning on industry experts and developing my own understanding to then implement it within the LCA study is something which makes me proud of myself and my work.

What do you most enjoy about working with your team?
The LCA team is a very cheery group, while we may be spread over multiple offices, we now have at least one person in each main UK office. I myself am based in Manchester and while I’m the only LCA team member in Manchester, I don’t feel any less part of the team.

What opportunities do you have at Ricardo to share your knowledge or expertise?
Within the LCA team, we have a monthly meeting which is used as a knowledge share session. It’s an opportunity for technical experts, or people who have been working on specific projects in sectors which require more technical knowledge to share their expertise with the wider team. I’ve personally learnt a lot more about batteries for EVs from these sessions which I’ve been able to use in other projects.

What advice would you give to anyone considering a career as an LCA consultant?
Follow the LinkedIn pages for Ricardo, before I joined I did my research into the LCA team and the types of projects which had recently been delivered which was helpful to discuss during the application process.
