James Davey
Biography
James Davey is a highly qualified scientist (PhD Physical Chemistry) with extensive experience of climate risk, energy policy development and international diplomacy. At Ricardo, he focuses on working with private sector clients to identify climate risks and implement appropriate and proportionate mitigation measures.
Story
James' approach to climate risk is to understand what the science says about potential risks to assets, operations and supply chains, and then build the solutions, in collaboration with Ricardo sector-experts (such as in energy, water, agriculture and more) that will reduce the risks over both the short and long-term.
His previous experience includes working within the UK Civil Service as lead official on Climate Science. providing technical advice on Government policy decisions. He has previously managed the delivery of UK Greenhouse gas inventory; developed an evidence framework for the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy; and managed a portfolio of research activities to help the Department secure the evidence it required. James has significant international negotiation experience, including acting as UK and EU issue lead on climate technology at UNFCCC COP15, Copenhagen.
His technical expertise includes detailed knowledge of UNFCCC reporting rules; a sound understanding of climate science; and detailed knowledge of measures to reduce GHG emissions (with a particular focus on energy efficiency and low-carbon heat), and to overcoming related technical, political, consumer and financial barriers.
