Biography

Dr. Panagiotis Fragkos leads the Global Energy Markets and Integrated Assessment Modelling team, bringing over 14 years of experience in advanced modelling of the energy-economy-environment nexus. His work supports strategic climate planning and policy implementation across national and international levels, with a strong focus on data-driven, quantitative analysis.

Panagiotis specialises in the development and application of large-scale mathematical models that simulate national and global energy system transitions. His modelling work enables the assessment of how national climate policies align with global mitigation objectives, helping to inform coherent and effective strategies for decarbonisation.

He has led and contributed to a wide range of international projects and studies focused on climate and energy policy design, green growth strategies, the socio-economic impacts of the low-carbon transition, and the interlinkages between climate action and sustainable development goals.

Panagiotis holds a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens and earned his PhD with a focus on “Stochastic modelling of the global energy system and applications,” underlining his expertise in managing uncertainty and complexity in long-term energy planning. Panagiotis was defined as being in the top 2% of scientists globally by the Stanford/Elsevier.
