- Accountable for the preparation of high volume lower value bids from across the business’ growth solutions, helping to ensure the quality of the tender submission.
- Ensure that bids are responsive to the client’s requirements and are coherent, robust and meet clients evaluation criteria.
- Work closely with technical and sales leads to be a ‘critical friend’ that supports bid delivery utilising best practices.
- Support BD engagement and qualification process as well as regular updating of pipeline according to prospecting activity.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the bid as a project, when appropriate working closely with the technical lead, and colleagues with commercial and financial responsibilities.
- Develop detailed project plans outlining bid timelines, tasks, and dependencies
- Coordinate cross-functional teams, providing clear direction and ensuring timely execution of tasks from opportunity identification stage right through to delivery
- Ensure that the overall document is professionally presented and tells a consistent and clear story.
- Ensure that all relevant quality processes are followed and documented
- Maintain and develop key bidding resources such as bidding templates and case studies especially for work streams with high levels of bidding
- Familiarity with the centralised bidding material available
- Acting as a critical friend and sales enablement’s leading expert with stakeholders to provide a supportive and insight driven evaluation of bid-based opportunities, helping to co-design strategies to win the bid, as well as protecting the organization from potential commercial risks.
- Managing Ricardo’s lower value bids in line with Ricardo’s processes (bid, legal, commercial), working closely with the technical lead, and colleagues with commercial and financial responsibilities.
- A trusted partner and peer to business development and technical stakeholders to establish our value proposition and differentiators in response to competitive analysis of the opportunity, against client needs/required outcomes.
Key Competencies and Experience
- Strong interpersonal skills, recognising the importance of relationship building with different stakeholders (particularly important in supporting the development of this new pan-business and region team).
- Proven track record of successfully developing and delivering substantial or complex high-quality bids to time, quality and budget
- Confidence working across different technical areas, markets and with a range of solutions and services
- Able to comfortably engage and deliver bid / business rational to Director Level stakeholders (internal and external customers)
- Ability to successfully manage multi-disciplinary bid opportunities within a defined bid budget and bid deadlines (interim stages and final submission date)
- Strong communication skills, with an ability to support and define direction for individual bids and the overarching bid process (alongside sales enablement regional lead), including the ability to influence processes and stakeholders outside your direct area of control.
- Understands the importance of processes and controls
- Review and provide feedback on content as it is produced by the contributors. Ensure that the overall document is professionally presented and tells a consistent and clear story
- Knowledge of the capabilities of the different practices and business units would be preferable
- Collaborative and inclusive leadership style, able to build strong and effective working relationships with people from different practices, regions and seniority levels.
- Able to operate effectively in high pressure situations and maintain positive working relationships. For example, working positively with stakeholders where there might be tight deadlines during complex bids
- Motivated by problem solving and able to show initiative to improve individual bids or the bid process as a whole.
- Able to see the bigger picture and able to use experience and relationships to know when flexibility (based on a clear understanding of potential risks and benefits) is necessary to meet wider business goals.
