Research/Consultant - Energy Intensive Industries

We are looking for a self-driven, motivated analyst/modeller to join our EU offices in Athens to work alongside our energy system modelling team on high-standing consulting projects for international organisations, national governments, and the private sector.

Key Responsibilities

In this position, you will perform quantitative research to support various activities of the PRIMES energy system modelling team. More specifically, you will:

  • Review, collect and process information from scientific, technical and market sources performing quantitative and qualitative assessment including structuring, keeping up-to-date and analysing large datasets relevant to energy, economy and industrial demand sectors.
  • Operate, maintain and further develop the PRIMES model focusing on the modelling of industrial sectors.
  • Contribute to technical and energy and climate policy quantitative analysis, lead and assist in the preparation and presentation of reports and related material, all while ensuring delivery within project timelines
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of sector technology developments, trends, challenges and regulations.

Key Competencies and Experience

  • MSc or PhD in engineering, economics, applied mathematics or physics or any relevant disciplines.
  • Experience in research and/or work experience in energy systems modelling, operations research, mathematical programming, and optimization modelling, especially focusing on process engineering and decarbonisation pathways for the industrial sectors.
  • Quantitative modelling skills with experience in developing models and scenarios ideally related to the decarbonisation of the industrial sectors.
  • Interest in energy system analysis and energy economics.
  • Understanding of European and/or international energy and environmental policy issues
  • Ability to use analytical and modelling tools, preferably GAMS or Python or R for modelling.
  • Advanced MS Office skills, particularly in Excel.
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal communication.
  • Analytical and problem-solving mindset, collaborative attitude and be eager to learn.
  • Proven writing skills gained through (co-) authorship of academic articles, technical and/or policy reports in English is an asset. .
