We are looking for a self-driven, motivated modeller to join our EU offices in Athens to work alongside our energy system modelling team on high-standing consulting projects for international organisations, national governments, and the private sector.
Key Responsibilities
In this position, you will perform quantitative research to support various activities of the PRIMES energy system modelling team. More specifically, you will:
- Review, collect and process information from scientific, technical and market sources performing quantitative and qualitative assessment including structuring, keeping up-to-date and analysing large datasets relevant to energy, economy and industrial demand sectors.
- Operate, maintain and further develop the PRIMES model focusing on the modelling power sector and electricity markets model.
- Design solutions for improving data workflows and quality assurance processes related to modelling.
- Contribute to technical and energy and climate policy quantitative analysis and assist in the preparation and presentation of reports and related material, all while ensuring delivery within project timelines.
- Be part of international research projects and liaise with other research groups.
Key Competencies and Experience
- MSc or PhD in engineering, economics, applied mathematics or physics or any relevant disciplines.
- Experience in research and/or work experience in energy systems modelling, operations research, mathematical programming, and optimisation modelling, especially focusing on the power sector and electricity markets. Experience in sector coupling modelling will be considered a plus.
- Understanding of European and/or international energy and environmental policy issues
- Ability to use analytical and modelling tools, preferably GAMS or Python or R for modelling.
- Advanced MS Office skills, particularly in Excel.
- Fluent in English, both written and verbal communication.
- Analytical and problem-solving mindset, collaborative attitude, and willingness to learn.
- Proven writing skills gained through (co-) authorship of academic articles, technical and/or policy reports in English is an asset.
