Analyst Consultant - Fisheries / Marine Ecologist
Salary range: £28,000 - £35,000

We are currently looking for an Analyst Consultant to join our Ecology team with a bias toward Fisheries management or Marine Ecology. Much of our work is for water companies but also covers wider infrastructure projects for developers and support for other commercial organisations, where high quality data capture and analysis is essential to assess risk and support mitigations work.
You will form part of the team supporting our consultants working across a variety of projects in our ecology, water, and environmental impact assessment teams. There is also the opportunity to work with other parts of our business with the aim of helping to develop a portfolio of projects where our water related expertise can complement other environmental assessments.
Key responsibilities
- Data collation through site surveys.
- Data processing, analysis, interpretation, and visualisation using Excel and GIS.
- Desk studies, literature reviews, option appraisals, impact assessment and reporting.
- Provide technical, administrative, or professional support to winning & executing projects.
- Solve problems, make decisions independently within own area of responsibility, or in conjunction with other team members or more senior colleagues.
- Undertake tasks on projects/bids and begins to manage tasks where appropriate.
- Develop client relationships at operational level on projects and tasks.
Key competencies and experience
- Bachelors (2.1 or above) and ideally a post graduate degree in a relevant subject.
- Demonstrable experience of relevant work.
- Graduate or Associate membership of CIEEM.
- Basic knowledge of UK and EU Wildlife Legislation, planning policies, licensing requirements and best practice survey techniques.
- Understanding of the UK water industry.
- Experience of using Excel and GIS packages (such as ArcGIS and QGIS).
- Experience of reviewing and interpreting datasets, with excellent analytical skills.
- Effective report writing skills.
- Ability to fault find and problem solve in challenging environments.
- Effective time management skills.
- Willingness to learn from contributing to a broad range of fieldwork and office-based tasks.
- A full UK driving licence.

- An understanding of undertaking field surveys safely and to the right quality standard.
- Plans, organises, and reviews activities effectively and efficiently in order to meet defined expectations.
Desirable
- Previous consultancy, regulator, or water company experience.
- Experience of project management and/or preparation of ecology proposals and tenders.
- Broad ecological survey experience with demonstrable proficiency in particular protected species surveys and/or habitat surveys and providing mitigation recommendations.
- Experience of planning and conducting ecological surveys, including habitat survey and protected species surveys, and providing mitigation recommendations.
- At least one protected species survey licence (not including GCN).
