Sustainable fuels workshop, providing foundational knowledge for customer’s decarbonisation journey

Customer Challenge

There are many fuel-pathways available to choose from and navigating to the most appropriate fuel is complex.

As a first step in the journey to identify which sustainable fuels are relevant, there is a need for teams to establish a common foundational knowledge in the subject to aid discussion and planning for R&D and product development. 

Ricardo Solution

A bespoke introduction to sustainable fuels applicable for the customer applications’ was developed. The global legislative drivers and government incentives were summarised to understand what is driving the adoption. The fuel pathways drivers and barriers were assessed by comparing their Toxicity, Safety, Handling and Well-To-Tank Emissions.

An assessment of fuels indicative impact on packing space was provided (engine and tank sizing). The fuels utility and environmental performance was ranked, providing an efficient process for evaluating the suitability of fuels for their application.

Customer Benefit

Gained a foundational knowledge of sustainable fuels including public evidence and Ricardo’s expert opinion to support their strategic product plans.

The future complexity of power systems is changing their business and with these deliverables they can start to navigate the complexities. This was supported by detailed Q&A throughout the project delivery.
