Numerous areas of England and Wales are still grappling with how to achieve nutrient neutral development, based on Habitats Directive EU ruling i.e. ensuring that no new development adds to existing nutrient burdens in designated areas.

Ricardo's nutrient budget calculators, develop with Natural England and Welsh LPAs, provide assessments of impact of nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorous. Using inputs about the development and wastewater estimates, a 'nutrient budget' and mitigations are provided, to support developers and LPA's with their Habitat Regulation Assessments.
