Hydrogen mobility — Charting the path forward at 2025 SAHy™ Conference

28 Mar 2025

Ricardo was honoured to present at the 2025 South Australian Hydrogen Conference (SAHy™), held on March 27 in Adelaide. As a leading technology agnostic organisation in the energy transition, we are committed to advancing hydrogen technologies and other low carbon fuels supporting the sustainable energy landscape.

The conference provided an important platform for industry leaders, experts, and innovators to gather and discuss the significant role hydrogen will play in South Australia's clean energy future.

Jorge Martin Gistau, Ricardo's ANZ Energy Infrastructure Transition Lead and South Australian Hydrogen Hubs Inc (SA-H2H™) Board Member, represented Ricardo and shared his expertise as part of the conference's distinguished speaker lineup.

Jorge discussed Ricardo’s role in facilitating a feasibility study on behalf of SA-H2H™ into hydrogen technology retrofitting as a decarbonisation pathway for heavy duty vehicles in South Australia. The Ricardo team has been working on this feasibility study during the past months and the outcome highlights a possible pathway to carry out such hydrogen retrofits in South Australia. Key aspects covered by the study included:

  • Potential emissions avoidance for the different technical routes
  • Technical and economic pre-feasibility
  • Preferred technical solutions per fleet type (based on engine size and powertrain characteristics)

Jorge also shared Ricardo’s insights as part of the panel discussion where he was joined by Scott Groom, Patty Therrios, Cranston Polson and Lauran Hefner. This panel explored the different hydrogen mobility opportunities and the road ahead. This included wider mobility solutions including road, rail, marine and aerospace.

The conference featured a range of notable speakers, including Hon Tom Koutsantonis MP, Minister for Energy & Mining and Ross Garnaut, Director at ZEN Energy. Over the course of a full day of discussions, networking, and knowledge sharing, we had the opportunity to engage with industry professionals and further our collective commitment to a sustainable, hydrogen-powered future.

We look forward to continuing our work with partners across the hydrogen industry to help shape the future of energy.
