James Roscoe Social Value Volunteering Award 2023

Ricardo commitment to social value and volunteering recognised with brand new award

15 Dec 2023

The passion, commitment and support by our teams for communities around the world has been recognised in the annual Ricardo Leading Lights Awards with a brand new award, the Ricardo Social Value Volunteering Award.

The very worthy inaugural winner of the award is James Roscoe, a Manchester-based consultant in the Energy and Carbon Regulation team, within Ricardo’s Policy, Strategy, and Economics Practice. James’s primary professional expertise lies in decentralised governance systems, particularly in energy communities, but he also brings this same care and commitment for communities to his volunteering.

James is passionate about volunteering and giving back to the community. As soon as the opportunity arose, James offered to be the social value champion for Ricardo’s Manchester office and, despite only having started this role recently, James has already organised a number of activities for the office including organising volunteering at a food bank and workshops to support asylum seekers and refugees.

James has been fully supportive of any possible social value proposals from the teams at the Manchester office and is always willing to give up his time and talk through social value and his colleague’s ideas. James’ enthusiasm is inspiring and drives people to get involved in making a positive contribution to the local community.

On receiving his award at the Ricardo Leading Lights ceremony from Ricardo’s General Counsel Harpreet Sagoo, James commented: “The award further reinforces to me that with persistence and perseverance, lots of positive change can be created, benefiting both the local community and Ricardo employees. It is also a reflection of the entire Manchester office's enthusiasm and dedication to participating in various volunteering initiatives.”

Each year, the Ricardo Leading Lights Awards reward and highlight Ricardo people who, in their daily work, have consistently gone over and above for clients, partners, colleagues or the global communities we have the privilege to serve. The Ricardo Social Value Volunteering Award was a new category in the 2023 awards programme, reflecting significant, impactful contributions to our key community engagement activities which seek to inspire the future green workforce and encourage social mobility to overcome disparity in the science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) sector.
