British Consul-General visits Ricardo team in Adelaide

28 Aug 2024

Ricardo’s team in Adelaide was delighted to welcome Steph Lysaght, British Consul-General, and Oonagh Lewis, Deputy Consul-General for a visit to the office on 28 August 2024.

The delegation from the British Consulate-General was hosted by Chris Hewitson, Director, Australia and New Zealand, with Will Fargher, Global Practice Director, Water and Michael Newman, Global Practice Director, Rail. Over morning tea, the VIP guests had the chance to meet and speak with some of Ricardo’s Adelaide-based water and rail consultants and hear more about their work in environmental and sustainable transport that they are undertaking in South Australia and internationally.

In particular, our consultants shared updates on significant projects in South Australia including Ricardo’s investment in hydrogen mobility, our work in net zero rail, and bringing together a UK-Australia and New Zealand collective to drive decarbonisation solutions for the South Australia Government. We further showcased recent work in water and environment by consultants who have transferred to Adelaide from Ricardo’s London office. The work is supporting delivery of key projects/programmes to improve water security in South Australia and improve the state’s biodiversity and agricultural productivity.

Welcoming the guests, Chris Hewitson set out the importance of their visit: “We are delighted to be joined today by Steph Lysaght and Oona Lewis and their team from the British Consulate-General. For all of us here, it is such a privilege to have the opportunity to share with Steph and Oonagh the work that we are doing to help the South Australian Government on its decarbonisation journey and to contribute to Australia’s net zero goals.”

“As a company which is headquartered in the UK, we are proud to be investing in Australia, and in the state of South Australia in particular. Our Adelaide office is a showcase for the expertise and capabilities that our team of 50 professionals is undertaking to advise government and private sector clients in key energy, transport and environmental projects across Australia.”

Steph Lysaght commented: “Climate change, sustainability and the energy transition are global challenges that require international, national and local collaboration.  Ricardo’s operation in Adelaide is a great example of the best of the UK and Australia coming together to help make Net Zero a reality. It’s not just about environmental outcomes. The collaboration and solutions will increase energy and resource security and drive economic growth.”
