Cmmi Maturity Accreditation

Ricardo retains key software and systems engineering accreditation

14 Oct 2019

Ricardo Defense announced today that its Systems Engineering and Software Engineering units have been appraised at Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) Maturity Level 3.

To achieve the Maturity Level 3 rating, Ricardo Defense had to meet CMMI Institute guidelines for implementing projects, from start to completion, and conform to the CMMI model for Development, Version 1.3, for both Systems Engineering and Software Engineering.

CMMI Maturity Levels represent a staged path for an organization’s performance and process improvement efforts based on predefined sets of practice areas. Within each maturity level, the predefined set of published appraisals also provide a path to performance improvement. Each maturity level builds on the previous maturity levels by adding new functionality or rigour; the Level 3 achieved by Ricardo Defense reflects a proactive, rather than reactive approach, with organization-wide standards providing guidance across projects, programs, and portfolios.

The appraisal was performed by Acme Process Group, Centreville, VA and overseen by lead appraiser Dr. Nina Malyutina. The assessment team reviewed hundreds of Software and Systems Engineering documents covering 18 process areas, and more than 50 percent of Ricardo Defense’s project managers, employees, and engineers were represented in the assessment.

“We take great pride in retaining this significant credential,” said Ricardo Defense president Chet Gryczan. “Receiving the Maturity Level 3 rating underscores our commitment to quality and is a great addition to our certifications including ISO 9001:2015 (Quality); ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental); and OHSAS 18001:2007 (Health and Safety). It confirms that our quality management system ensures the integrity of our processes, and it reinforces the confidence our customers have in us to deliver systems and software products that meet or exceed their exacting requirements.”

The CMMI Institute-accepted SCAMPI appraisal (#3971) for Ricardo Defense Project Management, Engineering, and Operations Group was submitted on August 11, 2019 and has since been approved for public dissemination.
