Ricardo showcases Ford Ranger HEX special editions at DVD

Following on from the launch of a hybrid 6x6 conversion of the popular Ford Ranger at last year’s DSEI show Ricardo showcased the latest variant in their family of HEX 6x6 and 6x4 conversion kits at the recent DVD show.  

The new variant utilises a robust and cost-effective mechanical drive system that provides a permanent all-wheel-drive solution for ultimate, sustained off-road mobility. The bogie style pivoting single leaf suspension offers improved wheel articulation for improved ride quality and traction. The system is also available in 6x4 configuration offering the same increase in payload using a cost-effective lazy axle arrangement 

Also on display was the Ricardo export power module a flywheel mounted electrical device that can deliver up to 30kW of continuous electrical power for use on and off the platform. The device has been developed to meet the increasing needs for electrical power in challenging environments in a more efficient means compared to the existing FEPS fleet of trailer mounted gensets. Replacing the FEPS fleet of trailers with the on-board integrated Export Power solution will significantly reduce logistic burden by 1,500 tonnes, 2.5km reduction in convoy length and save an estimated 2 million L of fuel. 

The system can also be combined with a battery electrical storage for extended silent operation as well as brake energy recouperation for enhanced performance and extended range.

Both the capable 6x6 and the cost-effective 6x4 conversions are bolt-on kits designed to significantly increase the payload capacity of the Ford Ranger truck from the standard 1,000kg to an impressive 4,000kg. These Ford-approved conversions are compatible with all cab variants without compromising the warranty of the vehicle.  

The kits are designed for easy installation, utilizing many standard Ford parts, making them simple to fit, maintain, and transfer between vehicles, allowing for a more flexible fleet configuration. The load-sharing suspension system offers excellent wheel articulation, maximizing traction and mobility while ensuring exceptional ride quality.
