Ricardo to support the DIY sector in hammering down value chain emissions

20 Dec 2023

Ricardo is pleased to announce it will be working with the European DIY Retail Association (EDRA) and Global Home Improvement Network (GHIN) to help the industry on their journey to identify and reduce scope 3 emissions across the EDRA/GHIN membership.

Jamie Pitcairn, Ricardo’s Technical Director for Corporate Sustainability, will be leading the initiative and said, "We are delighted to be supporting the global DIY sector to come together and reduce their scope 3 emissions. By working together the sector can accelerate decarbonisation across the value chain and achieve significant emission reductions at scale."

The EDRA/GHIN Scope 3 Taskforce, launched at the 9th Global DIY-Summit in Berlin, is a collaborative taskforce made up of leading home improvement companies from around the world. It was established to help the sector reduce its Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions - those that come from retailers’ supply chains and from how their customers use the products they buy in their homes.

For retailers, Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions make up more than 90% of their overall emissions. Given the scale of their impact, they are the most important, but also the most difficult to address.

EDRA/GHIN General Secretary, John W. Herbert, shared “We believe that with Ricardo we have a most trustworthy partner. The EDRA/GHIN network has already shown a huge amount of motivation and willingness in working together to identify and reduce scope 3 emissions, and through learning from each other and sharing best practice we can ensure we have the most tangible and wide reaching impact.”
