Decarbonisation for the DIY sector
Companies in the home improvement sector are coming together to tackle Scope 3 (value chain) emissions as part of their transition to a low carbon economy.
Scope 3 emissions account for more than 98% of DIY retailers' emissions and are generated up and down the value chain - from raw material extraction for products and manufacturing proceses through product use to end of life disposal.
Successfully tacking scope 3 emissions for individual retailers is dependent on collaborative decarbonisation efforts up and down their value chains. And of course, the success of decarbonising the sector as a whole depends on the value chains of many different retailers which is why Ricardo is working with EDRA/GHIN, the global trade body for home improvement retailers, to set industry targets, provide expert guidance and enable cooperation to accelerate decarbonisation progress in the sector.
By tackling Scope 3 emissions, the DIY sector can drive significant improvements in supply chain sustainability, meet the demands of eco-conscious consumers, and meet rising regulatory and stakeholder expectations for corporate responsibility and climate action. Progressive companies are prioritising immediate actions to maintain a competitive edge and to build long-term resilience.
All companies in the DIY sector must play their part in decarbonisation
Whether you are a DIY retailer adressing your Scope 3 emissions strategy or a DIY supplier whose Scope 1 and 2 emissions (from your own operations and energy use) contribute to your retailers' Scope 3 emissions, you have an essential role in decarbonising the sector.
It's complex and hard to achieve but Ricardo's experts are here to help with all aspects of decarbonisation across all scopes. We are uniquely placed to help DIY companies as we are leading the strategy and guidance for the sector alongside EDRA/GHIN.
Please get in touch for a discussion on how we can support you to create and implement a strategy that meets your ambitions, enables confident decision making and investments and accelerates your and your sector's progress to net zero,
“We consider ourselves to be most fortunate to have found Ricardo to lead our Scope 3 Decarbonisation Strategy and Implementation Programme.
Although early days, this is proving to be a sector initiative, which is essential when discussing Scope 3 Carbon Emissions.
The feedback from our members globally has been extremely positive and they are very happy with the partnership with Ricardo on this project. ”
